Dr. Werner Zedelius, Member of the Management Board of Allianz SE, was named chairman of the supervisory board of ESMT Berlin on September 20, 2016. He succeeds Professor Clemens Börsig, Chairman of the Deutsche Bank Foundation, who stepped down as of September 15, 2016.
Professor Börsig had been a member of the supervisory board of ESMT since its founding, after having been chairman of its predecessor USW for many years. In October 2007, he was appointed chair of the supervisory board at ESMT. During his tenure, the building up of ESMT was advanced successfully and was characterized by growth and, at the same time, financial stability. Prof. Börsig will remain involved with ESMT in a variety of ways.
"We thank Clemens Börsig for his longstanding commitment and great service to the business school. With Prof. Börsig at the helm of the supervisory board, ESMT developed very successfully. It received the most important international accreditations during this time and reached an excellent position in the global rankings,” said Dr. Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Daimler AG and Chairman of the ESMT Foundation. “With his proven management skills, Werner Zedelius is an excellent choice to continue these developments."
Dr. Werner Zedelius has been a member of the ESMT supervisory board since May 2013. After receiving his doctorate in law, he held various positions in sales and finance within Allianz SE. He has been a member of the board of management of Allianz SE for 14 years. His current responsibilities encompass Insurance German Speaking Countries and Central and Eastern Europe.
Prof. Börsig commented, “The successes of recent years are proof of the excellent and enduring work of ESMT. I am pleased to hand over the responsibility of the supervisory board chairmanship to Dr. Zedelius and will remain connected to the school.”
"I look forward to actively accompanying ESMT as supervisory board chair and supporting the positive development of the university,” said Dr. Zedelius.
